Spend the Summer Doing Research in Santa Cruz, CA
The UCSC Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program provides undergraduate students with the opportunity of engage in research in physics, chemistry, and engineering related to the discovery and study of materials that can be used in future sustainable technologies such as low-power electronic devices, renewable energy sources, and biomimetic devices.
The program is especially designed for talented students from community colleges and other non-PhD granting institutions of higher learning who may be thinking of pursuing a post-graduate degree in the sciences or engineering. Underrepresented minorities in science and engineering are encouraged to apply.
Participants earn a $4,500 stipend for the nine-week program and includes housing at the UCSC campus and meals.
Research projects involve faculty at the UC Santa Cruz Departments of Physics, Chemistry, and Electrical Engineering. In addition to the research, students will engage in educational and professional development activities. For example, weekly meetings will focus on technical writing, oral presentation, scientific poster preparation, graduate school application skills.
In addition, the program includes social activities in the beautiful setting of Santa Cruz, CA.
Applications will be evaluated on a rolling basis starting on March 5, 2018. Applications submitted before this date will receive full consideration.
